IRONMAN UK 2011 pre-registration, registration, and course information

Ironman uk 2011 is currently open to early registration and to get a spot in the front of the line, those wishing to have a place in Ironman UK in Bolton should get their names in.

As of Wednesday, 18 August 2010 08:55 about 1000 athletes have pre-registered for Ironman uk 2011 in Bolton.

The pre-registration form can be accessed from the **www.ironmanuk.com** home page. Use the red link text and add in your details as requested.

By doing this you are showing an interest in entering the event when Ironman UK begins the actual registration process.

If you are pre-registered you will receive up to date information about the Ironman UK 2011 event as it becomes available.

You will also be notified when the official entry opens to the general public and you will have a 24 hour window of opportunity to actually register before everyone else.

Keep in mind that pre-registration does not guarantee entry into the race. What it does is basically hold a spot for you for a 24 hour time period once the race registration officially opens.

You will not be officially entered until you have paid the entry fee and a spot will not be guaranteed and held for you until this is done.

THE IRONMAN UK COURSE

This is the course from Ironman uk 2010 and may be subject to change for the 2011 ironman, but for the most part most Ironman courses have small changes and are seldom changed drastically.

I will make every effort to update it as the year progresses.

The 2.4 mile swim consists of 2 anti-clockwise laps and is an in-water, mass swim start.

There will be a water only Feed Station at the swim exit for and no food will be available.

To my way of thinking it is not always a great idea to eat or drink the moment you get out of an Ironman swim anyway.

It takes your body a bit of time to adjust to be vertical instead of horizontal and waiting for 20-30 minutes before eating or drinking might be a good plan.

There will be a table at the swim exit/entrance for competitors to place their glasses, contact lenses, inhalers should it be required.

The following is a map of the swim course and it consists of two loops.

THE BIKE COURSE

The Ironman uk 112 mile bike consists of 3 anti-clockwise laps and over 2100m of climbing.

There are two Feed Stations 15 miles apart and they are located at New Road, Rivington and Buckshaw Village. Because of the lapped nature of the course you will pass the Feed Stations seven times.

This is what you can expect to find at the bike course Feed Stations.

- Gatorade (Thirst Quencher Orange)- Powerbars - berry blast / cookies & cream- Water

BIKE SPECIAL NEEDS STATION

The special needs station will be located at the New Road Feed Station in Rivington.

Although the Race Crew volunteers will do their best to help you in obtaining your Special Needs Bag at the relevant Feed Station, the sheer number of competitors may mean you will have to stop and find your own Special Needs Bag.

RUN COURSE

The ironman uk 2011 run course is a 26.2 mile point to point run with a looped dog leg section and approximately 450m of climbing.

Feed Stations

The run course Feed Stations will be approximately 3 miles apart and will be located at exit from T2, Crown Pub, Beehive Pub, Lostock, Overdale and entrance to Queens Park.

Because of the course configuration you will visit certain Feed Stations more than one.

This is what you can expect to find at the run Feed Stations.

- Gatorade (Thirst Quencher Orange)- Powerbar Gels - vanilla / strawberry & banana- Water- Bananas- Pepsi (flat)

RUN SPECIAL NEEDS STATION

The run special needs station will be located at the Crown Pub Feed Station.

The Race Crew volunteers will make ever effort to try to try and retrieve your Special Needs Bag at the relevant Feed Station.

However, if it is very busy you may have to stop and find your own bag.

I have written three books that all serve a specific purpose when it comes to those new to the sport of triathlon or those who perhaps have the Ironman on their mind.

"Ironstruck...The Ironman Triathlon Journey" is a perfect book for those who have the Ironman on their mind and perhaps need some motivation, inspiration, and encouragement to help them make that final decision to challenge the Ironman and make it to the finish line.

"Ironstruck? 500 Ironman Triathlon Questions and Answers" is most like the only Q+A book in the world on the subject of triathlon in general and the Ironman.

This is the perfect book for the triathlete who has decided to take on the Ironman for the first time, or perhaps has done one or two and would like some insight from a different point of view.

It is a great companion book for "Ironstruck...The Ironman Journey" and the pair of books would make a great gift.

"Triathlete in Transition" is a book that was inspired by all the people who would stop by at my Ironstruck book signings and suggest I write a book for the very beginner triathlete who just wanted to know more about the sport.

I suppose because I had this passion for the Ironman that it seemed natural to write about it first almost six years ago now.

So in effect I have gone from the most difficult and challenging of triathlons and ended up at the beginning of the triathlon journey.

Triathlete in transition is full of information about how to get started in the sport and like my Ironstruck books, are inspirational and motivational as well as full of practical advice on triathlon that make the sport much more enjoyable.

Regardless, now I have three books that cover the full range of triathlon from just learning about triathlon in general, to ultimately reaching the Ironman finish line.
