THE PENTICTON IRONMAN JOURNEY

The Penticton Ironman journey has been special for many people around the world who chose the historic Penticton course for their first Ironman attempt.

I talk to many, many people who reached the Ironman finish line for the first time on the now world famous Ironman Canada triathlon course in Penticton.

Not just people from Canada, but people from the United States, Mexico, and the other side of the world.

This historic course has a special greatness that captures the spirit and vision of the Ironman magic that John Collins and his buddies created over a quarter of a century ago.

There are so many great stories that have been born in the waters of Okanagan Lake, on the endless climbs of Richter's Pass and Yellow Lake, and the marathon course that skirts the shores of Skaha Lake.

Many dreams have been smashed and hearts broken during the Ironman journey in Penticton but at the same time legends have been born, seemingly insurmountable obstacles overcome, and dreams realized.

Whatever the result of the day, it is a truly special and remarkable person who stands in wait at the swim start of Ironman Canada.

So much sacrifice and effort has been put forth just to get there and be part of something very special.

In that one glorious moment when the Canadian anthem is playing you will be standing on the fittest most energy-charged piece of beach in the world.

Embrace it.

It is a vibrant spirit and brave heart that stands at the start line willing to accept what the day brings.

It is the challenges faced in the Penticton Ironman journey that make it so special. The fact that an Ironman is not easy makes it so much sweeter when you succeed.

Let the chips fall where they may, but by giving your best effort you simply cannot fail.

You are a winner when your arrive at the start line and although staying home and avoiding the risk of failure is tempting, you would deny yourself the opportunity of hearing your spirit sing.

You would deny yourself the chance for breaking down barriers and reaching heights on so many levels you never would have thought possible.

You would deny yourself the opportunity of doing what Scott Tinnely so eloquently stated in the early days of Ironman.

"Swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, run 26.2 miles and brag for the rest of your life".

If you enjoy using a book "reader" then visit Kobo Books and you will find all my books available at excellent download prices.

I have written three books that all serve a specific purpose when it comes to those new to the sport of triathlon or those who perhaps have the Ironman on their mind.

"Ironstruck...The Ironman Triathlon Journey" is a perfect book for those who have the Ironman on their mind and perhaps need some motivation, inspiration, and encouragement to help them make that final decision to challenge the Ironman and make it to the finish line.

"Ironstruck? 500 Ironman Triathlon Questions and Answers" is most like the only Q+A book in the world on the subject of triathlon in general and the Ironman.

This is the perfect book for the triathlete who has decided to take on the Ironman for the first time, or perhaps has done one or two and would like some insight from a different point of view.

It is a great companion book for "Ironstruck...The Ironman Journey" and the pair of books would make a great gift.

"Triathlete in Transition" is a book that was inspired by all the people who would stop by at my Ironstruck book signings and suggest I write a book for the very beginner triathlete who just wanted to know more about the sport.

I suppose because I had this passion for the Ironman that it seemed natural to write about it first almost six years ago now.

So in effect I have gone from the most difficult and challenging of triathlons and ended up at the beginning of the triathlon journey.

Triathlete in transition is full of information about how to get started in the sport and like my Ironstruck books, are inspirational and motivational as well as full of practical advice on triathlon that make the sport much more enjoyable.

Regardless, now I have three books that cover the full range of triathlon from just learning about triathlon in general, to ultimately reaching the Ironman finish line.
