CHEAP TRIATHLON BIKES..buying a used bike, where to buy a used triathlon bike, and more

Cheap triathlon bikes are out there if you know where to look for them. Always keep in mind that it's a buyers market when it comes to triathlon bikes and if you are patient, you'll find one.

Here are a few suggestions when it comes to finding a cheap triathlon bike, or perhaps "discount triathlon bike" sounds better.

CONSIDER A USED TRIATHLON BIKE

Regardless, there are bargains out there to be found and if you happen to be on a tight triathlon budget.

Shelling out a few thousand dollars for a new triathlon bike might not be in your game plan.

There are several things to consider about triathletes and their bikes. First of all, there are many first time Ironmen for instance who don't spend all that much for their first "new" triathlon bike.

They are still not sure which direction their triathlon/Ironman career is going to go until they've been in their first big race.

If they end up falling in love with the sport--and many people do--they will often decide to upgrade their bike. That's an opportunity for all those who are looking for a discount triathlon bike.

WHERE TO LOOK FOR A USED TRIATHLON BIKE

The bike owner is left with a few options. They can try and sell their used bike on their own through ads at fitness centers or through newspapers ads.

Possibly them might advertise on tri-club bulletin boards or they can try and get a better deal on the new bike they want to buy by trading in their used bike with the bike shop. Remember this.....

Bike shops really do not want to have a lot of used tri-bikes around. They are more interested in selling new ones.

That's opportunity knocking for you. I would go to every bike shop in town and even towns or cities nearby and tell them you are looking for a used triathlon bike and have them let you know when any used triathlon bikes become available in their store.

This is a great arrangement for everyone. The owner of the bike gets rid of his used bike, the owner of the bike shop sells a new bike, and "you" get yourself a cheap triathlon bike.

Everybody's happy.

I think this is a brilliant strategy for finding cheap triathlon bikes and I don't think many people ever think of it.

You may even be fortunate enough to land yourself a "fully-equipped" triathlon bike as many triathletes like to put new accessories on a new bike and not put the old bike accessories like aero-bars, bottle holders, and even bike computers on the new bike they purchase.

It's certainly worth a try and you just might end up with a spectacular deal. Plus who knows, if you talk real nice, the bike shop owner might even do a free bike-sizing and tune-up for you.

Regardless of what bike you decide on, take care of the chain when traveling. The oil on the chain attracts dirt and dust like a magnet and the oil on the chain will often get all over you as well when unloading and loading. I have a great new product available on my site that was first used by Tour riders including Lance Armstrong.

Have a look at the chain-condom. It's a great idea and quite inexpensive.

I have written three books that all serve a specific purpose when it comes to those new to the sport of triathlon or those who perhaps have the Ironman on their mind.

"Ironstruck...The Ironman Triathlon Journey" is a perfect book for those who have the Ironman on their mind and perhaps need some motivation, inspiration, and encouragement to help them make that final decision to challenge the Ironman and make it to the finish line.

"Ironstruck? 500 Ironman Triathlon Questions and Answers" is most like the only Q+A book in the world on the subject of triathlon in general and the Ironman.

This is the perfect book for the triathlete who has decided to take on the Ironman for the first time, or perhaps has done one or two and would like some insight from a different point of view.

It is a great companion book for "Ironstruck...The Ironman Journey" and the pair of books would make a great gift.

"Triathlete in Transition" is a book that was inspired by all the people who would stop by at my Ironstruck book signings and suggest I write a book for the very beginner triathlete who just wanted to know more about the sport.

I suppose because I had this passion for the Ironman that it seemed natural to write about it first almost six years ago now.

So in effect I have gone from the most difficult and challenging of triathlons and ended up at the beginning of the triathlon journey.

Triathlete in transition is full of information about how to get started in the sport and like my Ironstruck books, are inspirational and motivational as well as full of practical advice on triathlon that make the sport much more enjoyable.

Regardless, now I have three books that cover the full range of triathlon from just learning about triathlon in general, to ultimately reaching the Ironman finish line.
