GINSENG FOR ATHLETES increased energy and endurance
Many triathletes have discovered that the idea of ginseng for athletes has merit and have had success using it as part of their supplement program.
Many triathletes use ginseng as a valuable supplement to their training and racing diets because there have been many claims made about the nutritional value and health benefits of Ginseng. SEPARATE FACT FROM FICTION However it's important to separate the hype from the truth as is often the case when products are praised to the point that pretty well anything can be cured through it's use.
As with most drugs and vitamins we put into our bodies, it's important that when triathletes use ginseng, they take the time to carefully look at any and all scientific studies that have taken place concerning this product. In the case of Ginseng, there have been many comprehensive studies done that have shown it has many qualities that are beneficial to our health. SOME COMPREHENSIVE STUDIES A 2003 study performed at the University of Arizona Medical College did indicate that Ginseng provided a host of benefits and enhanced athletic performance and this immediately spurred an increased use of ginseng for athletes who are always on the look-out for a competitive edge. Studies indicated that Ginseng was effective as an anti-inflammatory, and anti-oxidant. It even has properties that are capable of providing anti-cancer effects. It also demonstrated that conditions often associated with diabetes might be improved, as well as providing an immune and psychological function with regular use. GINSENG LOWERS BLOOD SUGAR AND IMPROVES BALANCE Tests showed that using Ginseng to lower blood sugars was a great help to people diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Russian researchers performed studies that indicated that Ginseng in fact stimulated tired or weak individuals during mental and physical activities and actually showed that it was effective to help with balance.
They also showed that Ginseng can be as effective as Caffeine as a stimulant to improve the workings of the brain. If all this is true, then it's hard to find reason to criticize triathletes who use ginseng as a supplement to their diets. PROVEN TO ENHANCE ENERGY AND ENDURANCE There is also more good news for athletes. In tests performed by Russian scientists it was indicated that Ginseng stimulated the function of endocrine glands and greatly enhanced energy and endurance. It would be worth while to do your research on Ginseng and determine for yourself if it might help you in your training and racing. As with anything else you introduce into your diet, be sure to try it out in the course of your training and not in the days before the big event you are preparing for.
