Training-tips for your Ironman swim, bike, run
The training-tips I want to pass on to you are a result of many years of trial and error. In the beginnings of Ironman, noboby, except for maybe Dave Scott, Mark Allen and a few others, knew what they were doing. There were great swimmers, great cyclists and great runners, but not many could unlock the secret to putting all three events together in one day.
As the Ironman evolved and grew, so did the number of training plans and coaching systems. It seemed like everyone had a different opinion on how one should train for this physically demanding event.
I think its important that any coach you have should have at least have done one Ironman himself. I had several coaches that had no Ironman experience and yet were trying to teach me how to improve my Ironman time. It just doesn't make any sense to me now and I realize it was a mistake.
I found that the very best training programs came from athletes that had excelled at the Ironman distance. They have a clear understanding of what you'll be up against on race day.
I tried many types of training over the years and hope I can pass on at least a few training-tips that will help you realize your dream of finishing your very first Ironman Triathlon.
The following pages will deal with my take on stretching and weights and of course swim, bike and run training.
